Began in 1972 as Roundup Enterprises and was established by PVARC (Platte Valley Association for Retarded Citizens), a group of concerned parents. The program was originally housed at 300 West Valley Road in Torrington. Early work activities for those who participated in the program were assembling fishing lures, making flavored marshmallow fish bait, building feed bunks, assembling foam hair rollers, sorting beans, sewing potato sacks and making craft items to sell.
On February 22, 1973, PVARC purchased the Old Cheese Factory and moved the operation to that location. At this location, a car wash was opened and the participants repaired wood pallets and made survey stakes. (See newspaper article below.)
In 1979, Roundup Enterprises moved to it's present location at 1138 West C Street. At this time Roundup Enterprises changed it's name to Diversified Services, Inc. Diversified Services continued to wash cars. Also at this location, wooden bed frames were built, and a recycling program began.
In 1982, DSI received it's first three year CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) accreditation.
Today DSI, provides a wide array of services to individuals with Developmental Disabilities and Acquired Brain Injury. Most of the funding comes from the Medicaid Waiver.
